Contact Lenses

Contact lenses have a few benefits over traditional eyeglasses. For instance, they are more convenient and safer compared to eyeglasses, especially if you engage in sporting activities. If you are considering contact lenses, our optometry team at Today's Vision can help you find ones that suit your needs.

Contact Lens Options

Contact lenses come in a variety of types, some of these include:

Soft Lenses

These contact lenses are made of hydrogel. They are thin and pliable curving to the shape of your eye. They are comfortable to wear and a good alternative to PMMA lenses which are hard.

Gas Permeable Lenses

This type of lens appears and feels like the PMMA. However, they are porous and allow the movement of oxygen to your eyes. This property makes them more comfortable to wear than ordinary hard lenses since you can fit them closer to your eyes.

Hybrid Contact Lenses

These provide comfort similar to silicone hydrogel lenses. They are also gas permeable and crystal clear. On average, they are considered a bit more expensive than the other alternatives.

Tips for Your New Contacts

Our eye doctors at Today's Vision have put together a few tips to keep your eyes healthy while wearing contact lenses:

Wash and Dry Your Hands

Before you wear or remove your contact lenses, wash your hands thoroughly and dry them. Contacts can stick to wet hands or pick up bacteria from tap water. Make sure you use a lint-free towel for drying.

Wearing Your Contact Lenses

Always start with the same eye to avoid mixing up the lenses. Using your finger, slide the contact lens into your palm and use the recommended solution to rinse it. Place the lens on the tip of your index finger and pull the lower lid down using the middle finger. Using the other hand, pull up the upper lid and place the contact on your iris.

Cleaning and Storage

You can cleanse your contact lenses in different ways but make sure you follow the recommendation of your optometrist. You may use a multipurpose solution to disinfect, clean, rinse, and store your contacts. You may also store them in a hydrogen peroxide solution. However, never wear your contacts directly from this solution, rinse them off first.
