Contact Lens Exams

Contact lenses are a wonderful alternative to glasses, especially for people who are not able to or not ready to have LASIK surgery. Many contact lens wearers find glasses too uncomfortable or too restricting. This is where Today's Vision Conroe can help. We offer comprehensive contact lens exams that will ensure you get the right contacts and the right fit for your needs.

Do You Need a Contact Lens Exam?

Patients who are new to the whole corrective vision world may not even know they need contact lenses when they arrive for their eye exam. In many cases, they make an appointment when they notice their vision is blurry or they are straining to see. If you notice any changes in your vision, consider making an eye exam appointment as soon as possible.

Glasses Exams and Contact Lens Exams

It is often assumed that the exam for eyeglasses is the same exam for contact lenses. This just isn't the case. Eyeglass exams provide a more comprehensive examination of not only your vision but also your eye health. The contact lens exam, however, typically only checks the sharpness of your vision and the fit of the contact. Most doctors will perform a comprehensive eye examination before the exam for contact lenses.

What to Expect

If you have never had a comprehensive eye exam or it has been a while since your last eye exam, the optometrist will perform an eye exam that tests your eye health as well as how well you can see. After the comprehensive eye exam, the doctor will measure the surface of your eye, which will determine the size and contact that is ideal for your eye. We will also conduct a tear film evaluation to confirm that your eyes make enough tears to wear contacts comfortably.

All of the tests performed are non-invasive and take only a few minutes. Once the tests are done, it is time to complete the contact lens fitting. The optometrist will measure your eyes and then have you try on different lenses until you find lenses that fit your eyes, while also being comfortable.
